Mark Cossey followed up on his PB at Barnes Green two weeks ago with another huge PB at the Oxford Half marathon. This year the Oxford half also featured a "Bannister mile" half way through, taking in a lap of the Iffley Road stadium where the first sub 4 minute mile was run.

No let up in Donald Maclellan's racing schedule, as Sunday saw him place 14th - 7th among the over 40s and 2nd M40-44. Andrew Haig ran in 90th overall, 2nd in the M65 category, and Elana Moore came 10th in her F40-44 category.

Congratulations to the Senior men's team for another monumental relay performance. They finished 16th in illustrious company. This was their second best ever performance in this competition. Held in Sutton Park, Birmingham. Ben Tickner had travelled from Luxembourg to play his part and responded with the fourth fastest run of the day.

A strong showing from Phoenix at Barns Green Half Marathon. Patrick Acaye came a superb third in his first ever half marathon, the day after competing in the Cross-country relays. A great race also from Dave Carter who was fifth SM, and Donald MacLellan who had also raced the relays the day before. Patrick, Dave and Donald took Brighton Phoenix to third place in the team competition, and Mark Cossey also ran a big PB.

Some great results for Phoenix Triathlon members in all three distances at the Chichester Triathlon. Euan and Naill were part of a relay team that won the Middle distance. Erica Martin finished 3rd lady overall and Liz Halliday finished 2nd Female Vet in the Standard Distance. And Paul Wishart finished 8th overall and 1st Vet in the sprint distance.

Andy Bone added his first Ultra Marathon to his running career with the Longman Devil's Dyke Ultra and finished 3rd in a time of 05:04:34. You'll just have to go back next year to make it in under 5 hours :)
'It was my first go at a longer marathon distance and finished in 5 hours, 4 minutes and 34 seconds.
Really well organised race and thoroughly recommended if you want an introduction to a longer race.' -

Finishing in 7:15, she really liked the bike but felt she was slow in the swim with a particularly hard run. She's still considering it again next year though!!

On August 30-31 the England Athletics U17 & U15 Championships was held at Bedford.
Fin Bigg: bronze in the U17 400m in 49.88.
Archie Davis: 5th in the U17 800m in 1:57.22.
Sophie Mansfield: 6th in the U17 girls 800m in 2:14.93.
Almi Nerurkar : 11th in the U15 1500m final with 4:50.74.

Edmonton ITU Aquathlon/Triathlon World Championships

John Tindell's first race in GB kit got going in the Edmonton ITU Aquathlon World Championships which was shortly followed with the ITU World Triathlon Grand Final. He'd been suffering with a niggling knee for a while in the lead up to the events but still pulled it out the bag!

He won the race with Nigel Herron picking up the veterans (50+) prize.
A storming run by Toby Lewis saw him finish just ahead of Nigel in the overall race.

First home and winner of the handicap itself was Rik Taub in 47:30 (beating the handicapper by a whole 4 minutes!).
Second Home and winning the fastest woman award was Kate Gorman in 35:16

A river swim(1.5k) and challenging 1 lap bike(40k) and 2 lap run (9.6k) finishing in Arundel centre
Glenn's first standard distance triathlon but it was left to Nigel to make the basic mistake - leaving T1 without his number belt and having to waste 2 + mins running all the way back from the bike mount line to retrieve it before starting the bike!

Once again Phoenix pulled off another great race and thankfully the weather turned out to be ideal! Ben Tickner came back over from Luxembourg and stormed the field finishing in 30.05, 1m20s over second place! Although a great achievement it's still not under 30mins ay Ben!! Andrew Haig and Terry Avey also finished on the podium in their age categories

Phoenix Had 19 competitors at the under 13 and under 11 quadkids on Sunday 6 July
There were medals galore:
Wiiilam Saunders collected Gold for the high jump with 1.43m
and also collected a bronze for the 75m with a time of !0.53
Alex Brothwell came 4th in the 800mMaia Hardman collected Gold in the girls 800m 2m.28sec a medal well deserved.

He comments: I had the quickest bike split in my category but I missed 2nd spot by 5 seconds, missed 3rd spot by 2 seconds - need to speed up my transition and/or learn about sprint finish!
