Reading Half Marathon
Sun 21 Mar 2010
The Reading Half Marathon seems to attract more and more Phoenix runners each year. Its a fast well-organised mass participation (12000+) event and as such a good try out for the Spring Marathons. Eleven Phoenix Athletes all performed well. Josh Guilmant was our first finisher – 15th in 1:10:12 with Dave Carter (25th 1:12:24), James Miles (57th 1:15:55) and Garry Judd (88th 1:18:09). Andy Bone (120th) broke the 80 minute barrier for the first time with a pb 1:19:54 followed by Tom Farsides (297th 1:25:49), Erica Martin (299th 1:25:47), Lance Bellers (642nd 1:30:23 PB), Anita Jones (1051st 1:34:40 PB), Malcolm Kemp (1136th 1:35:27) and Marc Huws (4548th 1:48:25).

Hastings Half Marathon
Sun 21 Mar 2010
Hastings (4,000 finishers) was the destination of four Phoenix athletes. Its a tricky course with a long uphill section between four and six miles. Its reckoned to add a good couple of minutes to your time, so some good performances here. Andrew Neighbour was first home 190th in 1:29:45 followed by Terry Avey (461st 1:37:07), Faye McClelland (1123rd 1:47:04) and Debbie Evers (1764th 1:56:05).

English Schools Cross Country Champs
Sun 21 Mar 2010
The English Schools XC Champs took place at a wet and muddy Heaton Park in Manchester. Phoenix once again had athletes running for Sussex. Robbie Fitzgibbon (junior boys) and Beth Kidger (intermediate girls) both came in the first third of the field with solid runs. In the senior boys Finn McNally had to retire with back problems when he was well placed. Sam Wade came through in that event with his best run of the season. In the intermediate boys, Will Durkin had a great race, placing well within the top 100 in his first year in the age group. Run of the day came from Charlie Grice, who came an excellent 9th in the intermediate race, making him first reserve for the England team for the Home Countries International.

Sussex Grand Prix
Sussex Beacon Half Marathon
Sun 21 Feb 2010
Cold, wet and windy with race organisation that, well, just fell apart at the seams. The question has to be asked whether the race can sustain such numbers (6000+ finishers). Having said that, this was a good day for Phoenix. To quote The Argus:
...Dave Carter helped Phoenix scoop the team prize ahead of B&H. Carter came seventh with Bruce Faulkner, Darryll Hards and Max-Patrick Lippert making up the victorious quartet...
Not only that but Archie Davis won the junior 800m race and Max Pickard the junior 1M event
