Brighton Half Marathon

Mother Nature decided to be kind to everyone running the Brighton Half Marathon and the Brighton Half Marathon Youth Races and allowed a brief break from the recent storms. There was very little wind and the sun was out making it a great day for all! Congratulations to Bruce Warren and Bob Novis who both finished 1st in their categories.

Dark Star River Marathon

There are people who love this sort of thing. There are people in Phoenix who love this sort of thing! It was wet, it was off-road and it was muddy. Not only that it was over distance – 28.2 miles. Essentially an out and back along the river Adur, the route takes a detour to the epomymous Dark Star Brewery at the turn around but I don't think a compensatory pint was on offer. The race was restricted to 60 entrants and our gallant team all made it into the top half.
The race was won in 3:46:38. Tom Farsides ran 4:10:24 for an impressive third. Andy Pumphry ran 5:18:17 for 24th and Brian Friend 5:24:05 for 29th.

Brooks Sussex Cross Country Masters Championship

Bruce Warren Pulled off another great run and finished 2nd in the Brooks Sussex XC Masters Championship which helped bring the M50 team to 3rd overall. Also, some great running over all from the M60 team with Brian Friend finish 6th, Andrew Haig 7th, and Malcolm Kemp 9th helping their team to finish 2nd.

A few highlights from the Sussex Schools XC: In the Jounier Girls event, Phoenix members Almi Nerurkar (12:38), Naomi Fonteyn (13:09), and Charlotte Matthews (13:44) finished 1st, 2nd, and 3rd respectively and in the Senior Boys event, Spencer Thomas (27:41) finished 2nd.
