    The Big W

    Wed 15 Aug 2012

11 Runners took on the challenge of estimating their time for a downland run which incorporated the infamous Big W above Kingston.

Tom has the honour of getting nearest to his estimate but a great battle was fought between James and Donald for the fastest time - although a few seconds behind at the end Donald did look slightly more "composed" at the top of the  very steep sprint to the finish.

Haywards Heath Harriers, Downland Running Festival

    Wed 25 Jul 2012

Only five Phoenix runners in these two off road races. With very hot conditions and change from the previous months weather Tom managed a magnificent third place, following on from his mid week PHK 10K. Brian’s first run after his 100 miler less than a month came in under 5 hours!

The Dewpond 7 is a new race replacing the Jack and Jill loop. The slightly longer still included two big climbs was very well marshaled and sign posted.

    Bewl 15M

    Sun 1 Jul 2012

A little muddier than normal and the odd shower fell, but the home-made cakes and casks of real ale, free to runners, help to make this a special event. The route is around the mighty Bewl Water reservoir, dried up a few months ago but now splendidly full again.

    13th Bruce Warren 1:40:25
    28th Tom Farsides 1:46:02
    65th Lance Bellers 1:51:45
    169th Andrew Haig 2:03:23
    295th Sonal Chaudhary 2:13:12

Tom had been up most of the night pacing Brian Friend through the final 21 miles of his 100M South Downs Way run. After an hour or two's kip he was off to Bewl and managed to knock a good five minutes off his last year's time. Impressive.
