Brighton Phoenix Open/BMC races
Wed 8 May 2013
Some fantastic competing was seen at the Phoenix Open Track Meeting at Withdean Stadium, May 8th. Athletes of all ages competed in events from 100 metres, 800 metres, 1500 metres, 3 km and steeplechase runs to standing long jump and long jump.
Phoenix was out in force with record numbers of runners in the junior races.
In the closed 100m Sophia Warner narrowly missed the qualifying time for the World Para Athletics Championships with what was still a great run.
In the very competitive 800 metre BMCA race Matt Favers showed great ability to accelerate at pace in the last 50 metres to win.Yet further success, in the form of personal bests, was seen for Billy White in the A race and Spencer Thomas looking good to win the B. And there was yet another outstanding front run by Almi Nerurkar in the under 13 girls 800 metres.

Sun 5 May 2013
The athletes were blessed with fantastic weather in comparison to the near artic conditions last year. In the long course Tom Hopkins and Malcolm Hughes finished 1st male and 1st male supervet. Will Flewett also finished 1st in his age group. Sean Scott also just missed out on 3rd after some confusion between a motorist and a marshal while exiting T1 resulting in Sean losing a shoe and missing a flying mount onto the bike. Wes Mechen also missed out on a 3rd place after forgetting his race number number out of T1 and having to run back into transition. Some splits are not shown in the full results so if either David Futter or Mark Walker know theirs, please email them to brightonphoenixmedia@gmail.com and they will be updated.Long 800m 36km 8km Position Name Category Finish Swim T1 Bike T2 Run 1st Tom Hopkins (M) 30-34 01:35:42 00:12:02 00:37 00:54:21 00:32 00:28:13 5th Sean Scott (M) 35-39 01:38:32 00:14:07 00:31 00:53:29 00:32 00:29:53 7th John Tindell (M) 25-29 01:39:02 00:12:01 00:37 00:54:58 00:28 00:30:58 13th Malcolm Hughes (M) 50-54 01:44:15 00:13:31 00:43 00:55:45 00:34 00:33:42 63rd Emma Hughes (F) 25-29 02:01:24 00:14:03 00:48 01:05:57 00:47 00:39:49 93rd Deborah Evers (F) 50-54 02:13:03 00:16:55 01:18 01:12:12 00:47 00:41:51 Short 400m 20km 5km 4th Wes Mechen (M) 30-35 00:54:18 06:39 00:37 00:29:45 00:24 00:16:53 16th David Futter (M) 35-39 00:58:38 00:25 00:26 00:19:04 19th Will Flewett (M) 60-64 00:59:49 00:06:49 00:33 00:31:38 00:52 00:19:57 62nd Mark Walker (M) 45-49 01:06:29 00:07:27 00:58 00:38:00 00:58 00:19:06 71st Hildi Mitchell (F) 40-44 01:07:15 00:07:51 01:03 00:35:08 00:50 00:22:23 99th Sophie Barton (F) 25-29 01:09:59 00:07:28 01:17 00:38:22 00:43 00:22:09
