    Cross Country League at Goodwood

    Sat 24 Oct 2009

A misty day saw a reasonable turn out for Phoenix, a few more senior men would have been nice though, and there were some good results.
In the U17 women Beth and Megan Kidger scored 2nd and 4th.
Billy White won the U13 boys. Charlie Grice won U17men. In the men's race U20 runners Finn McNally and Sam Wade went well to help the team to 4th. The vet men are 5th.

Sussex Cross country Relay champs Goodwood

Isn't life surprising. We've been commenting lately about relatively few women competing in running events and then bingo! – an unheard of four teams are entered for this event. What's more we've shown what we can do – with the A team (Erica Martin, Sundai Boulton and Liz Durman) winning a neck and neck battle with Horsham Blue Star for first spot. The B team(Angel Collins, Rachel Phelps, Erica Martin) would have placed seventh but for Erica running a second leg. As it was the C team (Deb Friis, Faye McClelland, Liz Halliday) were placed 9th and the D team (Hildi Mitchell, Sue Hudson and Ananda Mello-Costa) placing 13th.

The senior men also triumphed with Dave Carter, Charlie Grice, James Miles and Finn McNally running themselves into second place.

Elsewhere Archie Davis and Billie White ran great legs in the U13 boys event but lacked a third runner for what might have been a winning team. The U15 boys (Luke Reynolds, Jack Donaghy and Robbie Fitgibbon) were 4th team. Paul Collicutt and Malcolm Hughes ran well for the masters but alas were two runners short.

Inter counties Cross Country Championships Nottingham

    Sat 7 Mar 2009

There was Phoenix representation across the board in Sussex vests for the Inter-county championships. Star of the day was Charlie Grice who was 6th in the U15 boys. Sophie Coleman suffered cramp problems in the early part of her race and will be disappointed with her, otherwise impressive, 10th spot in the under 20 women’s race. She was hoping for a top 5 position to cement her claim for a GB place in the World Championships.

Other Phoenix placings: James Miles 256th SM, Finn MacNally 114th U17B, Robbie Fitzgibbon 46th and Billy White 64th U13B, Liz Durman 209th SW, Beth Kidger 103rd and Megan Kidger 263rd U15G.
