Weekend Triathlon/Duathlon Results
Sun 1 Sep 2024
Fifteen club triathletes competed in multiple events this weekend.
Sam Wade again won the Brighton and Hove Sprint Triathlon, with new member Simon Lilley doing well coming 10th in a large field. And there were first experiences of triathlon for Olle Akeson, and Matt Stevens also did well improving on his time in his first triathlon last year. Ella Grabsky, continues her progress in triathlon and how much she's improving, coming second in her age group.
Emma Wrightman did very well in the B&H standard distance placing 10th female and 2nd in her age group. It would seem that Keir Macdonald and Travis Eyles might have been victims of the tidal issues that affected those starting in the later later waves.
In the 1066 triathlons turned duathlons Liz Halliday was first female in the standard distance, Geoff Pike coming 4th overall. This was the Club Championship race and so each win the 12 points on offer! Sally Symes continued her impressive year, competing in the sprint and Paul Young disappointingly for him had what would have been his first Middle Distance turned into an adapted duathlon but completed it well in hot conditions.
At Dorney Lake Erica Martin, not in her preferred duathlon, once again still finished high up the placings in the Sprint Triathlon.
Well done everyone!

Amazing performance from Liz in this middle distance triathlon. Not only was she the fastest woman aged 60 plus but, despite not running much recently due to a long term injury, she completed this race only 44 seconds slower than the first middle distance triathlon she did 19 years ago, inspiring all of us to keep training, holding back the sands of time!

Multisport Championship Event 3: Goodwood Sprint Duathlon
Sun 7 Jul 2024
Event 3 in the multisport championship took us to Goodwood for the sprint duathlon...the weather looked ominous but ultimately smiled on us. Everyone did well winning their age categories, albeit in an admittedly 'small' field, apart from the legend Erica Martin who was second female overall!

Multisport Champs Event 2: Sprint Duathlon
Sun 16 Jun 2024
A small group of Phoenix athletes took part in the second event of the 2024 Club Multisport Championship. Chelsey was 3rd woman overall and second in her category. And in the open category Simon Lilley was second overall in his first multisport race in Phoenix colours. Honourable mentions too for Phil Grabsky, who continues to demonstrate his ability at pretty much any event, Geoff Pike and the evergreen and hugely inspiring Eogan McKenna all came in the top 5 in their categories.
