Brghton Phoenix Wednesday Evening Group Structure

5.30pm
GREEN BIBS     (Year 5)  9-10 year-olds    BW/GR/NS
A starter group who will have the opportunity to try different activities and gain an introduction to athletics in a fun way. Athletes will progress from this group into BLUE/ORANGE.

BLUE BIBS     (Year 6) 10-11 year-olds     BW/GR/NS
Continuing general athletic development in preparation for Sports Hall/Track and XC

ORANGE BIBS     (Year 6) 10-11 year-olds     BW/GR/NS
Continuing general athletic development in preparation for Sports Hall/Track and XC

GROUP A - SPRINT    (Years 7,8 and 9) 11-14 year-olds     RH/MT/SH
This group will be doing more specific sprint work aimed at developing young athletes in sprint technique.

GROUP B - Distance running     (Years 6 and 7) 11-12 year-olds     AB
This group will be doing more specific middle distance training for the track in the summer and XC in winter. Some athletes with maybe invited by the coaches to other training sessions during the week.

RUNNING FITNESS GROUP     (Years 7, 8 and 9) 11-16 year-olds     tbc
For various reasons some young athletes don’t want to or can’t compete, so this group will be structured to suit their needs while maintaining the opportunity to train with others of a similar ability. This will allow them to continue to enjoy running without the pressure of competition.

6.30pm
GROUP C - Distance running     (Year 8 upwards) 13-15 year-olds     AB
Athletes who have shown a commitment to racing or have reached a set performance standard. They train more than once a week and show potential. They will progress in Group D.
(600m B 2:10/G 2:20)

GROUP D Distance performance      (Year 8 upwards) 14-17 year-olds     BW
This group will have the same criteria as Group C but will contain athletes who are at a higher level according to the coaches and will benefit from and cope with more advanced training.
(800m B 2:50 G-3:00).

6.50pm
GROUP E Distance performance    16-20 year-olds    BW/JK

This group will be for advanced athletes training primarily for track and XC. Athletes will receive structured training sessions and in some cases individual schedules to suit their racing requirements. Sub groups within this session will form to take in specific events and personal targets.
(800m B 2:30/G 2:40) (800m B 2:16/ G 2:25) (1500m B 4:20 / G 5:10)

7.00pm
GROUP F Senior Distance     17 upwards    SH/LH

Athletes of varying abilities training for 5k to marathons. Sessions composed of different distance reps totalling 5K. Group splits into two/ three groups of ability. All abilities are welcome.
 
GROUP G Advanced Senior Distance     (17-19min 5K or 2.40-3 hour marathon)    MK
Athletes of varying abilities training for 5k to marathons and 800 + 1500m. Sessions composed of different distance reps totalling 5-6K. Middle distance athletes in the spring/summer will do specific
training.

GROUP H Sprint Group     14 upwards    AF
Athletes who wish to train for 100m, 200m and 400m.
