Winter Fixtures

Overview

A draft fixture list has been produced; this will be updated as further information becomes available. Race information for local races can also be found at www.sussexraces.co.uk and www.sussexathletics.net also www.thepowerof10.info can be searched for national fixtures as well as results, click on the fixture button.

X-country-These events are normally in parkland areas. Distances vary but normally range from 2k for U11’s through to 10k+ for senior men. Each course is different, some will have good facilities such as changing and some don’t. There will normally be a Phoenix tent at County events. Although it is possible to run in training shoes spikes are better when it gets muddy. You can change the size of spikes within the shoes. 6mm are for track, 9mm generally for x-country unless very muddy then 12 or 15mm.  In cross country races you are competing for both team and individual honours.  A good turnout is very important as every person from another team you can get ahead of, reduces that team's score against us.

The first x-country race is the County x-country relay championships which is on Saturday 28 September at Goodwood. There are races for all ages, min age 11 on day of race. Please e-mail your team manager if you are interested as teams need to be entered in advance.

We encourage people to do the Sussex x-country league races, there are 4 races, and the County Championships. There are races for all age groups including the U11s. There are also other local events as well as regional and national events.  For the league races, you turn up and register and pay on the day; for the championships please let your manager know as advance entry is required. Entry fees for county championship races are covered by the club.

Indoor track – The nearest indoor track is at Lee Valley. Although it is a long way it is a good facility and unique experience. Indoor Sports Hall – These events are for junior members and are held in sports halls where there are various running and jumping events. The team manager will select a team. There will probably be more people wanting to compete than spaces available so please respect the team managers decisions. There are non scoring sprint events for all.

Road Races – These are normally for athletes aged 17 or older, however there are a few events for juniors, often associated with senior races such as the Brighton half marathon. There are also road relay events for all age groups from U13 upward.

RACE ENTRY

Entries for the sports hall, x-country relays, road relays, county x-country championships and some regional/national events are done by the team manager. The team managers will e-mail when event details are available but if there are any events that you are particularly interested in please e-mail the team manager. All other events athletes have to enter themselves. For some events for U13 and older age groups you may need your English Athletics registration number (EA number). Be aware that National and SEAA regional and events often have very early entry dates, see www.englishcrosscountry.co.uk/ and  www.seaa.org.uk/

U11: school years 5 and 6

U13: school years 7 and 8 + school year 6 aged 11 on the day of the race.

U13: school years 6 and 7
