England 1 Phoenix 3
This year the Phoenix 10k had to compete with the World Cup as England's semi final game against Croatia fell around race time.
In the spirit of sport, a big screen was placed at the start/finish tent so runners & spectators could see as much of the game as possible whilst the main event (the 10k) took place.
There was an excellent turnout from an army of Marshalls and Club and Clocktower Sanctuary volunteers - especially needed as the course was rerouted at the last minute to avoid congestion anticipated at half time from the seafront bar. Hats off to race director Andy Bone for managing these changes.
Phoenix managed a hat trick with Finn McNally winning overall in 31:08, Steve Atkinson finishing first Vm50 in 37:06 and Paul Whelpton first Vm65 in 40:08.
The race raises money for the Clocktower Sanctuary - a local charity who run a centre for young people who are homeless & vulnerably housed. If you have a moment check out their website https://www.thects.org.uk to understand what they do and for other ways you can help.
