Grand Prix Spree

Tuesday 22nd May 2018

The Horsham 10k on May 20thsaw us notch up one of our best ever club performances in a Sussex Grand Prix race. As in previous years the course took runners through the outskirts of Horsham and the surrounding countryside, passing through some lovely woods which provided welcome shade given the fine sunny weather.

10 of the first 20 men from Grand Prix clubs to cross the finish line were wearing Phoenix vests, with the other 22 competing clubs sharing the remaining 10 spots between them. We had 16 men and 9 women running, and great performances right through the team; even our 14thman home Andrew Haslam was ahead of all but a handful of runners from all our rival SGP teams.

Alex Cruttenden was our first male finisher in 3rdplace, and amazingly Matt Greenall in 11thplace was our 7thman home. Women’s Captain Bobby Searle was the 2ndwoman finisher, and Amelia Culshaw, Matt Greenall, Paul Whelpton and Andrew Haig all claimed age category wins by huge margins. After the race a well-stocked cake stall and continuing sunshine contributed to a great Sunday morning.
Hopefully more of the same is in store at Heathfield on June 24th– entries online athttp://heathfieldroadrunners.com/race.phpand just emailbrightonphoenix@gmail.comfor details of carsharing etc.
