CLUB AWARDS 2017

Tuesday 21st February 2017

We plan to hold our 2017 Awards Night at the usual time towards the end of the year, in late November or early December, to review and celebrate the period from September 2016 to August 2017 inclusive. As we are a thriving club with a large membership it is of course always going to be impossible to make enough individual awards in any one year to recognise all of our dedicated and deserving members. This makes decisions about awards very difficult for our Coaches - who make most of the nominations - and the Board members, who make the final decisions. Here as promised is a full list of all current awards together with the criteria taken into account for each of them.

Best Performance Awards

Track and Field Male & Female, Cross/Country/Road Male & Female, Outstanding Achievement (Multisport), Outstanding Team

The sole criterion for these awards is outstanding achievement in absolute terms - with suitable adjustment for age and gender.

Specific Event Awards

Tri Club Champions Male & Female, Blackcap Handicap

These of course are based on finishing positions in the relevant events.

Other Awards

Junior Awards (Burchell, Sportshall, U11, U13, U15, U17), U20 Awards, Tough Of The Track, Commitment and Enthusiasm Shield, Volunteer's Award, Bruce Faulkner Award, Best Newcomer, Coach Of The Year, Vet Awards (Male O40, O50, O60, Female O35, O50, O60), Multisport Male & Female, Chair's Award, and new Team Commitment Award

For all of these awards the following range of criteria is taken into account - with appropriate adjustment for specialist awards such as the Coach and Volunteer awards:

Team spirit/support given to other club members; volunteering record; improvement on personal best performances (with age-graded adjustment so older members are still in with a shout!); effort put into training and racing; lack of previous club awards; length of club membership; outstanding performance in absolute terms.

Needless to say the aim is that all club members have a realistic chance of gaining an award provided they put enough work in! For instance we already have a lot of members staking strong bids for 2017 team awards:

Under 11 Boys XC Team: best turnout of any of our teams in the Sussex Cross Country League;

Women's XC Team: bronze medallists in Sussex Cross Country League in their first year after promotion to Division 1;

Men's Sussex Grand Prix Team: winners of the SGP Men's Trophy for the first time.

Awards are not the be all and end all of why we run of course, but who doesn't like a bit of recognition, so best of luck to all!
