Be your BEST! ....It just might be good enough!!
"The thought of an Ironman always scared me. When I signed up for Ironman Vichy last year instead of a rush of excitement I felt fear and dread. It's huge, whichever which way you break it down it is just huge.
Almost two years ago I said goodbye to my brave, courageous, funny, positive and optimistic friend, Sandra. I always said I would do something big to raise money for the people that helped her so much in the last days of her life. Well, this was it - an IRONMAN. I trained hard and dare I say it started to feel excited. I felt if I could show just a small amount of the strength that Sandra showed I would be just fine."
Taking part in Vichy, France, Athletes swim 3.8km in the Lake Allier, cycle 180km through the regions of Allier and Puy-de-dome and finish with a 42.2km run on the shores of Lac d-Allier. Offering 40 qualifying slots for the 2017 Ironman world championships in Kona, Hawaii there was everything to race for!
"On Sunday 28th August I proved to myself that with the right training, focus, commitment and belief anything really is possible. In fact I exceeded my expectations finishing 2nd in my age group with a time of 11:15:38. I now have to do it all again at the Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii in October 2017! This time I am excited. As a triathlete there is no bigger honour than gaining a Kona slot.
Thanks also to my fantastic group of friends and all those who donated. I have nearly reached the £1000, 17% of the cost of Sandra's care for the Martlets."
Thank you Anita for this report
