Feb 19/20 – great weekend for Phoenix
Sunday 20th February 2011
The Big event was the Brighton Half Marathon on Sunday. 25 of us ran with considerable success. Lead runner was Ian Leitch, second in the race in a time of 1:08:30. With Dave Carter 8th and Daryll Hards 14th we were easily the leading team. Other notable performances were Bruce Warren 29th who's 1:18:50 knocks over 10 minutes off his previous best, Jim Whitelegg (1:26:20) who knocked 4 minutes plus off his and Paul Thomas (3:05:29) who also improved by a massive margin. Terry Avey (1:35:04) was first M60. The only flat note was the absence of Phoenix women with vet Carol Webb (1:47:22) the only representative.
In the junior races there was a fantastic entry by the club with no fewer than 23 young athletes taking part in the race for 8–11 year olds. Isaac Wright won the event with Max Winter in second place. In the 12–16 event, Archie Davis came a fantastic second.
