Varsity victory for Maia, Milly and Adam

It couldn't get any better for Maia Hardman.

Elected as Captain of Cambridge University's cross country team (Cambridge University Hare & Hounds ) and victory over Oxford in the annual Varsity Cross Country match at Wimbledon Common.

We caught up with Maia afterwards...

"I was voted in as Captain last March at the AGM after giving a short speech about what I wanted to do with the role. I love the club and so wanted to take the opportunity to give back. It has been a great few months and I’ve really enjoyed the responsibility.

I have now done the Varsity cross-country race twice, this year and last. It’s an amazing event to be a part of, with the first ever event being held in 1880!

There are 8 in each of the teams, so 16 in total. In each race, 6 people score and the lowest score wins. Part of the race involves running through a river wearing all white, which is certainly an interesting experience!

The women won 29 to 50, and the men won 38 to 40. It was overall a fantastic day, with an excellent after party to follow. The icing on the muddy cake, was that with Phoenix's Milly Dickinson in the team we also won the Women’s II's event at Shotover, Oxford, the week before to make it a double Phoenix celebration.

Then followed it up with victory for the Men’s II's with Phoenix's Adam Dray in the team and finally the Men’s III's, making this the first time in history that Cambridge has won all 5 selected matches.
