Euro Cross Country Trials - Liverpool

Charlie Grice was just beaten to a qualifying place in the final straight of the short course relay trials. Charlie chased after the early leader and eventual winner James Heneghan as they approached halfway, but was not able to maintain his effort in the final straight and had to settle for 3rd place and just missed out on GB selection.

Alice Wright started the Under 20 trials race brimming with confidence after her 4th place in the British Cross Challenge at Milton Keynes. Not getting the best of starts and finding herself in the high 20's early on, she had to battle her way through the field and showed her strength with a fast finishing loop, taking 3 places and finishing a fantastic 5th. Only the first 4 gain automatic selection for Turin so we await the decision of British Athletics on 28th November.

Beth Kidger and Almi Nerurkar raced in the combined Senior and Under 23 trials race. Beth started relatively conservatively and powered through the large field to end-up crossing the line in 31st place. Almi set-off in persuit of the leading group from the start, but was unable to maintain the effort, finishing 57th

Miles Waterworth also had to battle through a large field of athletes in the cloying mud of Sefton Park, Liverpool, to eventually finish 22nd. With several setbacks in his training this winter, that's not a bad result and there is probably more to come from the English Schools 800m champion.

Ben Connolly found the going tough and had to settle for 122nd place in the Under 20 mens race.
