Chester Marathon PB fest!

Friday 7th October 2022

Ash Dorrington, Stuart Roberts and Wes Eason all achieved huge PBs at the Chester marathon last weekend. Here they tell us about their experience.

Ash Dorrington smashed his marathon PB in 2:33.49 in claiming an impressive 7th place at the MBNA Chester Marathon. The Phoenix runner made steady progress in the tough latter stages to claim third V35 on a largely rural course, which started and finished in the city centre.

“It’s definitely one where it is on you; it needs disciplined pacing and just about holding on through that last 10k as you navigate the undulation and hills,” said Dorrington, who knocked nearly 10 minutes off his previous best set in 2019.

Stuart Roberts (V45) also dug in during the climb back into Chester, knocking eight minutes off his previous marathon best to net 2:49.41 - 12th in age category (72nd overall). The Welshman finished 20 minutes under the English Age Group Masters standard in a well-organised and scenic event, which also doubled as an England Masters race.

Wes Eason (V40) completed the Phoenix trio and returned to Sussex with another PB from the tough Anglo-Welsh course - 3:06.42 (230th) - another big step up by nearly four minutes.

Many congratulations to all three athletes!
