Launching the new Phoenix at parkrun roundup

Tuesday 6th September 2022

Welcome to the inaugural Phoenix parkrun round-up in which we take a look at the achievements of club members at parkrun from the weekend. From PBs to milestones to parkrun tourism, this is a chance to celebrate both personal achievement and the joy of running!

First though we would like to take this opportunity to celebrate Will Russell’s achievement on the 29th January 2022 when he notched up his 500th parkrun. The picture shows some of his Phoenix clubmates coming out to celebrate his achievement. We think he might be one of the youngest people to reach the 500 parkrun milestone and possibly the first person under the age of 25 to do so (almost certainly in Brighton and Hove), having started parkrunning when he was 11 and started training with Phoenix. Will has one rule for his parkrunning…don’t run the same parkrun two weeks in a row!

The 'Phoenix at parkrun round up' is going to be a regular news feature administered initially by new member and keen parkrunner, Billy Gates, so if you would like a milestone, achievement or interesting anecdote to be mentioned please reach out to Billy on WhatsApp or via Strava here. He will be using the parkrun website, the Club Strava page and www.thepowerof10.info to search out performances etc. To help Billy do make sure your parkrun profile includes your club name (Brighton Phoenix) and that, if you use Strava you join the Brighton Phoenix club page.

Personal Bests 3rd September 2022

Congratulations to 3 club members in achieving parkrun PBs this week!

- Simon Lowe: 19:13 (Hove Promenade)

- Jacky Miller: 20:54 (Hove Promenade)

- Billy Gates: 24:25 (Worthing)

Billy himself reflects: "I'm having a lot of fun with my running these days, and since joining Phoenix and making the Wednesday track sessions a part of my weekly routine I've broken my parkrun PB almost every week this past month. Anyone looking to get quicker has to make this a part of their training!"

Finally, congratulations to Madelaine Parmar who has joined the 100 Club!

Thanks from the Club Billy for taking this on, we look forward to seeing the parkrun reviews.
