GB age group duathlete Nina Atherton makes successful comeback

Monday 5th September 2022

After a very nasty accident at the Preston Park Velodrome less than a month ago when Nina suffered concussion, lost two teeth and needed stitches, she raced for the first time at the London Duathlon.

Only a week ago Nina was telling me that she felt apprehensive and had not regained all her confidence on the bike. It is testament to her bravery that she should race this soon after the crash and equip herself so well, coming 15th out of 400 women in the 5km run/22km bike/5km event, held at Richmond Park.

Back on her bike...and smiling!

Perhaps most importantly she enjoyed the race telling us ‘the race village had food vans and was also a good venue for spectators to relax in’ – she’s always thinking of others and the important things in life!

She also said she would recommend this race to anyone wanting to try out a duathlon for the first time, as it is large enough to have a good atmosphere without being too congested.

Congratulations Nina, good to see you back!
