Highlights from the Youth Teams
As the 2017 track and field season draws to a close we look back on some of the highlights of the Youth teams.
The U13 League events saw some brilliant performances across every discipline. The girls' team, in particular, dominated the East division winning their 4x100m relay in each match. Of particular note were Jess Powell, Isabella Martin and Lauren McLellan. Lauren was unbeaten in her sprints whilst Jess and Isabella were chosen to represent Sussex at the Inter Counties Invitational. Jess finished 4th in the Combined events - two places higher than last year.
The boys' team, whilst not always as dedicated as the girls, also showed some stand-out performances, particularly in the 600m where Joshua Munro and Ben Connolly dominated. Ben was chosen to represent Sussex and Josh's time of 1.41.4 in the 600m saw him ranked 7th in the country for his age.
Despite all this talent, the County Championships delivered slightly less in the medals department. At the U13 County Champs Keira Patterson-Jewell picked up a bronze medal in the 150m and at the U15 County Champs, Renee Bassin won a bronze medal in the Triple Jump.
In the U11 categories we have some talented athletes who will be competing in the U13 category next year. Of note are Angelina Bowen, Imogen Read and Kira Betts in the girls category and Matthew Noakes in the boys. We look forward to watching them all perform over the Winter season in Cross
Country as well as Indoors and we wish them health and success for an even better 2018 season.
