Bourne to run!

First in her age group at the Eastbourne Triathlon, Erica Martin gives her account of the race....

"It was an interesting race as it was the first time I'd done a sea swim in a race. The current was very strong but surprisingly I felt ok despite not feeling like I was making any progress most of the time!

The bike went out on an undulating loop around Beachy Head. The return route was a very enjoyable downhill followed by a nice flat loop along the seafront.

The run took us up to the top of (similar to the start of the Beachy Head Marathon) which was pretty tough. The second half was all brought us back down the hill to finish along the seafront.

I think some of my timings were wrong as for some reason my chip didn't register the run or the bike splits. I gave them my bike time and they made up my run time which was much SLOWER than I actually got (they took it off my T2 time- I would never be that quick) so my actual times were as follows:

Swim - 12:51
T1 - 3:55
Bike - 55:42
T2 - 1:10
Run - 21:54
Overall - 1:35:34

This was a great race, well organised, challenging and local. I would definitely recommend it for the future."
