Donald in the French Mountains
Monday 28th September 2015
Donald Maclellanwent to the French Massif Central to tackle some serious mountains. After a week of training he ran in an open 12k race organised alongside the national trail championships (run over 34k and 60k!). The 12k Trails du Sancywas a mountain race with a straight ascent and descent, taking in 550 metres of climbing (and back down again), reaching an altitude of 1540 metres. The race set out from Le Mont Doré, a popular ski resort in winter. Donald sat in around 12th place for most of the climb but if you've ever seen him running down hills you won't be surprised to know that on the steep technical descent, he clawed his way to 7th overall, missing out on an age category win by just 5 seconds. "A thoroughly enjoyable race in fine weather".
