Grand Prix winners

Wednesday 31st December 2014

The final results have just been published for the Sussex Grand Prix Road Racing series 2014. This is a series of 20 key races in the county run throughout the year and including our own 10K race.

Points are awarded to clubs and to individuals overall and in age categories on a count down basis. First qualifying runner in scores 500 and next 499 and so on. There are separate men and women's competitions and an overall club award.

A decade ago we were winning this overall cup but seem to have drifted down to midpoint of the 22 clubs competing. Winners this year were Haywards Heath Harriers. We came 11th in the overall results (male), 15th overall (women), 10th vet men and 15th vet women.

We were slightly more successful in the individual awards with Terry Avey achieving third place in the V5 category and Andrew Haig first place in the V6. Andrew was a mighty 210 points ahead of his nearest rival and has now won his age group for nine consecutive years. "I guess I'm going to have to try and complete the set next year' he says but 'It gets more and more difficult with younger guys coming into the age group'.

The 2015 race series begins with the Chichester 10K on February 8.
