Senior Men Triumph at Southern Road Relays

Tuesday 23rd September 2014

The South of England Road Relay Championships attract competition from all the top clubs in the area. Run around a natural basin (The Rushmore Arena) in Aldershot, the two circuits add up to 6K for each of the six-man teams in the senior event. We've done pretty well in the past coming an excellent 17th last year out of 70 odd finishing teams. This year we went to a whole new level knocking a full 5 minutes off of last year's time.

Josh Guilmant kicked off with a stunner: 18:24 to hand over in 6th position. This got him into the fastest leg list in equal 14th place. Ross Skelton kept the pressure on, running a fantastic 18:41 taking us into the dream territory of second place. Inevitably the middle order would lose a little ground – but not much, we were never out of the top ten. Robbie Fitzgibbon ran 19:38 for 9th place, Jake Alger ran 19:31 to maintain the position, Sam Wade ran 19:01 for eighth and finally Jon Pepper let fly with 18:37 and 7th place. Great race, great tactics.

Meanwhile we fielded an incomplete B team which, had it been complete would surely have kept them well in the mix. Jose Luceron kicked off in 20:26, Sean Parker-Harding ran 20:36, Sam Kitchen 21:45 and O40 vet Don Maclellan 22:13. They were 56/72 at that point.

Great day at the races everyone.
