Spring in their step!
The spring bank holiday might mean relaxing for most people but the Phoenix athletes were out in force throughout the County and further afield.
Saturday 25th May saw Sophie Barton come 5th in her category in the Dorney Super Sprint whilst Arundel Triathlon on 26th had 3 Phoenix entrants; for the Standard distance Steven Johnson & Liz Halliday (hot from her first win last week in her new age category!) & in the Sprint Bob Novis, finishing a respectable 7th.
The Grendon Sprint Tri, Northamptonshire, is the open water swim qualifier race for the European Triathlon series. Our own Debs Evers finished in a storming 1:33:26.
Further afield, Paule Kremer & Ben Tickner came 1st & 2nd respectively in Paule's local 10k in Berdorfer, Luxemburg.
Back at home Charlie Grice again showed us he's "the one to watch" finishing 1st in the British Athletics One Mile Road Championships in Westminster in a time of 4:02. Terry Avey came 3rd (6:07) and Liam Chessell 34th (6:03) in their age categories and Robbie Fitzgibbon was second in the junior men's race in a time of 4:16.
And last, but by no means least, the Rye 10 Mile, which is part of the Sussex Grand Prix & boasts the only 10 mile road race in Sussex, saw Bruce Warren take another win in his age category with Tom Farsides finishing 16th. Not to be out done, Andrew Haig also finished first in his category, one up from his second place at the Horsham 10k.
