Senior men take bronze in Sussex relays

Wednesday 15th April 2009

The senior men were defending champions at the Sussex Road Relay Championships at Christ Hospital on 11 April. With a weakened team the task was to stay within the medals and bronze was duly achieved with some sensational running notably by Josh Guilmant (9:55), Matt Barrie (10:05) and Dave Carter (10:29). Josh’s time won him individual silver. In the two-man B team young Jonas Wienecke showed his potential by running a brave 11:14 ending the first lap slightly ahead of the A team. The juniors were scuttled by incomplete teams but there were some great individual performances notably U13 boys – Robbie Fitzgibbon ran fourth fastes lap, U13 girls – Jodie Mann ran 7th fastest and the Kidger twins Beth and Megan who, with Beth running two legs finished in a time that would have won them the event. Beth, however was rewarded with individual bronze. The senior women managed three teams on the day. The A team came an excellent 4th amid stiff competition led by Erica Martin who recorded a fine 11:52 followed by Jodie Oliver (12:55) and Liz Durman (12:24). In the B team Sundai Boulton ran an excellent 12:30. The over 40 (5th) and over 50 (7th) vet men’s teams put in solid performances with Gary Thayre producing the day’s best run in 11:09 giving him 7th spot in the individual competition.
