    Bexhill X-Country League Match 3

    Sat 14 Jan 2012

With the Sussex Championships the previous week and the Sussex Masters and Schools Championships on 21st January and the Southern x-country races on 28th, making the trip to Bexhill for the third county cross country league race on 14th January was a low priority for some athletes. Despite this, Phoenix managed to field athletes in all races with teams consolidating their league positions.

    Sat 10 Dec 2011

Held at Lloyd Park Croyden on a sunlit but frosty undulating course. Slippery in places. 10K

Runners compete within five year age bands as individuals. Phoenix entered a complete three-man team for the O60 team competition. Unfortunately Andrew Haig's result has not been recorded and we are protesting this. It would have given us 5th team spot ahead of  Brighton and Hove.

    Andrew Field 6th M60 43:05
    Malcolm Kemp 15th M60 45:57
    Andrew Haig 4th M65 46:02 approx (tbc)
    Should be 5th O60 team

    In the O40 race Daren Elliot 21st M45 41:20

Rock n Roll Arizona – Phoenix marathon

    Sun 16 Jan 2011

Brian Friend kicked off the Phoenix marathon season with an excellent run at this (30,000 runner) event.

He set a target of 3:15 so his 3:14:44 is as close as dammit! This gave him 261st place with a remarkable AG 3rd.

Well done Brian. We have to get him back now to head the O50 team in the masters XC champs next weekend.

Over 60 Men Victorious at Dene Park

On a bright Sunday afternoon the over 60 men's team of Andrew Field, Andrew Haig and, celebrating his birthday, Pat Kearney finished 2nd , 4th and 10th respectively to easily retain the title won last year with a 16 point lead over Brighton in 2nd  and Chichester 3rd, a further 3 points back.

The over 50's and over 40's were missing some key runners due to injury but both teams still put in strong performances to register 4th places in their races.

Sussex XC League 2 - Plumpton

    Sat 28 Nov 2009

There was a good turn out for the men's race, though as usual it was thanks to the masters filling the ranks. In what where very soggy conditions underfoot the first Phoenix finisher was Finn McNally in an excellent 5th place and 1st U20. In the league the senior men are up to 3rd. The vets remain 4th.

The ladies are also up to 3rd in division2 helped by Liz Durman's fine 8th place.

Sussex Cross country Relay champs Goodwood

    Sat 3 Oct 2009

Isn't life surprising. We've been commenting lately about relatively few women competing in running events and then bingo! – an unheard of four teams are entered for this event. What's more we've shown what we can do – with the A team (Erica Martin, Sundai Boulton and Liz Durman) winning a neck and neck battle with Horsham Blue Star for first spot. The B team(Angel Collins, Rachel Phelps, Erica Martin) would have placed seventh but for Erica running a second leg. As it was the C team (Deb Friis, Faye McClelland, Liz Halliday) were placed 9th and the D team (Hildi Mitchell, Sue Hudson and Ananda Mello-Costa) placing 13th.

The senior men also triumphed with Dave Carter, Charlie Grice, James Miles and Finn McNally running themselves into second place.

Elsewhere Archie Davis and Billie White ran great legs in the U13 boys event but lacked a third runner for what might have been a winning team. The U15 boys (Luke Reynolds, Jack Donaghy and Robbie Fitgibbon) were 4th team. Paul Collicutt and Malcolm Hughes ran well for the masters but alas were two runners short.
