Athletics Club Honours Late Members Andrew Brooks & Malcolm Hughes with Life-Saving AED
Wednesday 1st January 2025
The club is proud to announce the purchase of a portable Automated External Defibrillator (AED), made possible through funds raised by club members.
Both Andrew and Malcolm were dedicated athletes and much cherished members of our club who left a lasting impact on everyone who knew them. Two AEDs were previously purchased and located in Falmer and Stanmer Village.
The newly acquired portable AED is a vital addition to our club, providing a life-saving tool that can be used during training sessions, events, or emergencies. Sudden cardiac arrest can strike anyone at any time, and having an AED on hand significantly increases the chances of survival. Importantly, AEDs are designed to be simple and easy to use, even for those without prior medical experience — clear audio and visual prompts guide the user step-by-step in an emergency – a recently attended training course proved just how straightforward the device is to operate!
We are incredibly grateful to everyone who contributed to this effort.
Thank you to all club members who made this possible.
Let’s continue to honour Andrew and Malcolm by looking out for one another and ensuring the safety of all our athletes.
