Val Avella wins the handicap race
Once again there was a fabulous turnout from the oldest and youngest, fastest and slowest senior members for this ever popular club event. Again, the weather was good, showcasing the 5 mile, out and back route from Ditchling Beacon to the Blackcap trig point.
The race was organised by Liz Halliday with support from others on the day. Liz handicaps all the runners based on a recent 5k race time and everyone is set off in 'appropriate' intervals, prompting inevitable banter about the handicapping!
This year's winner was Val Avella who ran hard and was chuffed to bits, saying 'hard to believe but I actually won a race with you amazing runnners'.
There were two times under 30 minutes the fifth and sixth fastest runners on the strava segment (Luke Pettit and Charlie Penrose). Luke Pettit won in 29:20, and fastest female was Chelsey Hallam in 35:24. But the absolute times are not what this race is about and congratulations go to everyone who took part and helped out in this fabulous club event.
