Phoenix parkrun round-up (10th September 2022)

Tuesday 13th September 2022

Welcome to this week's Phoenix Parkrun Round-Up in which we take a look at the achievements of club members at parkrun from the weekend. From PBs to milestones to parkrun tourism, this is a chance to celebrate both personal achievement and the joy of running!

If your achievement isn't listed below then that likely means you don't have Brighton Phoenix listed as your club on parkrun! We use the parkrun website, the Club Strava page and www.thepowerof10.info to search out performances and stories. If you have an achievement you want to shout about then reach out to Billy Gates on WhatsApp.

Personal Bests

Congratulations to 10(!) club members in achieving parkrun PBs this week!

  • Freya Hughes: 19:45 (Hove Promenade)
  • Jacky Miller: 20:31 (Hove Promenade)
  • Terry Westley: 22:18 (Hove Promenade)
  • Robert Carr: 23:27 (Hove Promenade)
  • Billy Gates: 23:23 (Worthing)
  • Finn Aggarwal: 20:58 (Brighton & Hove)
  • Kate Natkiel: 18:07 (Worthing)
  • William Furlong: 19:12 (Hove Promenade)
  • Tommy Knight: 22:00 (Worthing)
  • Lisa Ebdon: 25:56 (Brighton & Hove)

Freya tells us about her performance: "I've been chasing sub-20 all summer, and with regular track and parkrun sessions, finally reached it! Running shoulder to shoulder with a pacer helped me keep on track, until an all-out effort at the end. It was tough but really enjoyable and has shown me I can hit goals I put my mind to. Roll on next week!"

With the Richmond Marathon postponed due to the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, Terry decided to put all his effort into a Parkrun PB instead which he reflects on: "After running a couple of parkruns whilst tapering, I felt like 'Hey, why not try and throw down the gauntlet and see if I can PB, what's the worst that could happen?' I generally felt good but set off too fast with my 1st mile being at 4:13/km and 3rd at 4:40/km. My previous parkrun PB was 23:53, my next goal is come in under 22 mins whilst working towards Brighton Marathon in April 2023."

Notable Mentions

A special mention to Finn Aggarwal who has knocked some eight minutes off his PB since the start of the year.

  • Congratulations to Carol Webb who achieved the top age graded performance at Brighton & Hove parkrun (24:11 - 83.8% age grade)
  • Congratulations also to both Jack Hayward (Bevendean Down parkrun: 19:50) and Jonathan Martin (Somerdale Pavilion parkun: 18:34) who came in first overall at their parkruns

Tommy Knight, pictured, (@tommydknight on IG) smashed out a speedy 22:00 parkrun in Worthing this week after a huge 19 mile run to get there! Tommy tells me: "It's 5 weeks out from Amsterdam Marathon and my goal time is seeming more achievable as the weeks go on. Felt awesome to have finished my long run (22 miles) with Worthing parkrun. Legs felt surprisingly fresh, so used parkrun to get some speed in the legs after a long steady run! Big confidence boost for Amsterdam!" Check out his latest Instagram post for the full story!
