Coronavirus/Covid-19 UPDATE – TRACK NIGHT SUSPENDED

Tuesday 17th March 2020

NO MORE WEDNESDAY TRACK NIGHT OR THURSDAY CLUB RUN UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.

The PHX Board have decided to suspend the Club track night and Thursday's Club Run for as long at the current Covid-19 crisis remains with us. The situation is unprecedented and extremely serious. It cannot be right that we do something that increases the risk of virus transmission.

This is also in-line with what England Athletics are now advising; see their statement here:

https://www.englandathletics.org/athletics-and-running/news/coronavirus-statement/

We are a fit group, and we might be only minimally impacted on an individual level if any of us were to become infected. However we believe that our main responsibility in this situation is to our community, and the vulnerable groups for who the virus can be a killer. My personal fear is that we might represent the perfect ‘hosts’ for the virus. Fit and healthy individuals that can potentially brush it off while infecting others.

We’re engaged in a rather simple sport, we run (cycle and swim).

So, either contact your coach - or wait for communication from him or her regarding any training sessions that may take place. We know that a lot of you have been training hard for particular races which are now cancelled or postponed; it might make sense to ease up for a while before resuming intensive training again when your event/events are able to be held.

If you have time, the below link is to a rather excellent article on the importance of sport to our communities; and just how hard these next weeks are going to be for all of us.
