BEAMING AT BEXHILL

Sunday 11th August 2019

Simon Heath remains on course to record an unprecedented perfect score of 6 wins / 3000 points in this year’s Sussex Grand Prix, after overhauling Hastings AC’s Rhys Boorman in the final stages of the Bexhill 5k on July 31st,  finish just 4 seconds ahead of Rhys to chalk up his 5th victory in the competition. With 4 of the 12 fixtures in this year’s competition still to come, and each runner’s  6 best scores counting towards their final points total, Simon needs just one more win to earn the 500 points that will see him reach the maximum possible score of 3000 points.

Rachel Gorman once again joined Simon on the winners’ podium, enjoying a more comfortable 27-second winning margin, and she now has 3 SGP wins to her name, so is still in with a chance   to match Simon’s potential perfect total if she can win 3 of the remaining 4 races.

Simon and Rachel led home a gratifyingly large 21-strong Phoenix team, all of whom, regardless of finishing position, earned us invaluable points  in the team competition, and after a very wobbly start in the early fixtures we now look favourites to reclaim the title at the end of the year after having to settle for runners-up spot last year. Surprisingly for a club with around 200 Senior members our only weakness remains turnout: to maximise our chances of success we need 25 or more runners at every race and we have fallen short of that target at most of the races this year. So if you can join our  team for one or more of the remaining races please sign up for them SGP RACES  And for more details just email the club and ask to join our SGP mailing list.
