Good start to the year
One of the first races of the new year, the Sussex Cross Country Championship at Bexhill, showed some strong Phoenix performances.... it's going to be a good year!
Conditions were perfect, albeit chilly, as the Bexhill course, well known for its mud, was surprisingly dry. Points were awarded for individual running and teams for U13 and up.
Phoenix had athletes in all categories from U11 to Seniors with a squad of 6 U11 boys, 2 teams of U13 boys (5th & 9th) and an U15 girls team (8th). It's good to see these young athletes out representing Phoenix.
In the older categories Phoenix saw further success with Leo Brewer (2nd U17), Reuben Hoyte (3rd U20) and Ross Skelton (2nd senior men) with the Phoenix A team of Ross, Robbie Fitzgibbon, Max Dumbrell, Ian Leitch, Dan Stepney and Alex Cruttenden finishing first.
Almi Nerurkar finished 3rd senior women and with Tara Bage, Jessica Prior and Naomi Fonteyn finished second in the team event with Phoenix B senior women finishing 8th.
What a good start to the year!
