Alex leads Newick charge

The Newick 10k race, one of the best scoring races in the Sussex Grand Prix series, saw yet another great Phoenix turn out.

Of note is Alex Cruttenden's second place finish to take the Senior trophy with Paul Weir, Tobias Brewer and Donald Maclellan all in the top 10. Lizzie Miles finished 5th senior woman with Izzy Anderson 8th.

Paul Whelpton, Phoenix's own SGP statistician has crunched the numbers whilst the website is waiting to be updated. He says:
"Definitely a spectacular victory for our men at Newick however you look at it:
Top 5 men from each club: Phoenix average finishing place 7th, Wadhurst 16th, Hailsham 35th, Haywards Heath 39th
Top 10 men from each club: Phoenix 21st, Wadhurst 47th, Hailsham 71st, Haywards Heath 95th

Women's result is much less clear. Not as many runners competed from each team, but if you look at the top six from each team at Newick, Haywards Heath come out on top with an average finishing place of 90th, and we come out second with 105, just a nose ahead of the red hot favourites for the Women's Title Hailsham Harriers on 106.

In terms of the overall Women's competition we are likely to need to finish in second place overall - after the last race at Crowborough - to have a realistic chance of taking the overall SGP title. Haywards Heath, Wadhurst and Crawley Saints and Sinners are our main rivals for second place in the Women's competition and my guess is it will be pretty close right up till the end."
