Tim Bayley makes the British team at Doha

Tim Bayley had to wait for an agonising 48 hours after his amazing run at the Aviva Grand Prix meeting in Birmingham for comfirmation of his place in the 1500 metres in the World Indoor Championships in Doha on 11/14 March. He needed this race to prove his point having come second the week before at the British trials in a slow tactical time. This time there was no mistake. Although placing seventh in the race, He posted a substantial pb of 3:40:16 and that was enough to impress the selectors and give Phoenix its first representation at a major international championship since Pat Davoren ran in the Commonwealth Games. Tim becomes the club indoor 1500 metre record holder.

Tim has also twice broken the 4 minute indoor Mile barrier before his departure from the states. His best of 3:59:53 was in Seattle on January 16. This makes him 5th on the club all-time list behind Steve Ovett, Mark Rowland, Johann Boakes and Mark Howard. Tim must surely be eyeing the 2012 Olympics as an achievable ambition.
