Phoenix: What a Mob!

Sunday 31st July 2016

The Phoenix Flashmob at Hove Park parkrun was a great success with over thirty of us turning out. It wasn't just about numbers; there were two first timers, five PBs and the age grade lead.

The Flashmob was V64 vet Paul Whelpton's idea and, fittingly, he it was who ran a cracking 18:58 to head the age-grading with 87.61%. He was delighted with the club's response with thirty+ members turning up dressed resplendently in club colours. It was especially pleasing to see so many young runners there.

They were prominant among the PBs with Madelaine Badzuzaman, Anna Berry, James Fontayne and Woody Rickwood chalking them up. They were joined by vet Malcolm Hughes who broke his PB having just completed a gruelling bike ride.

It was good to see some Hove Park first timers as well: Imogen Read and Eddie Harrison.

Leading Phoenix male finisher was James Miles who came third ioverall n a time of 18:09. Leading female was Bobby Searle, second woman and 28th overall in a time of 20:24

The results can be seen HERE. One or two runners who were pacing others opted to avoid the finish funnel.

Thanks to Lizzie Miles for the photos.
