Phoenix amphibians

Tuesday 28th June saw Phoenix take over Pells Pool at Lewes for a 2 hour coached swim session.

The first of its kind this season, the session took place in response to the Multi Sports meeting (held in the winter) to think of ways to support the tri-athletes of the club whilst the Brighton College pool is under refurbishment.

As is the Phoenix way, athletes of all abilities and experience were included in the session that involved an hour of drills then an hour session. In our lane the drills such as swimming with your legs tied together to improve your posture in the water brought on the joke of drowning moths rather than the butterfly, but it was unanimously agreed how much we benefited from the session; not only were we pushed to swim harder but we were coached on how to achieve this.

There was also the opportunity to be filmed swimming to analyse your technique and the session ended with a staggered race - like an amphibian blackcap handicap! Hildi had even thoughtfully brought hot drinks to keep us warm.

Thank you so much to Hildi, Nigel and Jon who gave up their time to organise the sessions and provide the coaching for the 15 or so athletes who took part.
