Phoenix Athletes Indoors

Sunday 7th February 2010

The weekend of 6th and 7th of February proved a good one for two of Phoenix's indoor stars.

In Boston Tim Bayley ran under 4 mins for the mile at the Reebok Boston Indoor Games. His time of 3:59.75 placed him sixth behind Olympic Silver medallist Nick Willis ( 3:55.26 ). More importantly for Tim he also achieved the A standard qualifying time for the world indoor championships...getting it safely out of the way before the UK trials on 13th/ 14th Feb.

A few weeks back on 16th Jan Tim broke 4mins at the Seattle inddor meeting with a time of 3:59.58....just inches behind Alistair Cragg of Ireland ( one of the few Europeans to ever beat Kinese Bekele! ). An hour and a half later Tim followed the mile up with a 1:51.77 victory in the 800m.

On 30th Jan he also came 2nd over 800m at seattle with a 1:49.47. This race can be seen on Flotrack. Go to www.flotrack.org and type Tim Bayley into the search box.

Tim is now officially Phoenix's 5th sub 4min miler behind Steve Ovett, Mark Rowland, Johan Boakes and Mark Howard.

Meanwhile back in sunny Britain Dan Stepney has been getting himself back in form after missing the last two years of track racing due to injuries. He started the season with a 4:04.10 1500m in his heat at the Southern Indoors. On 30th Jan he came 5th in the London Indoor Games in 1:53.6 over 800m. On 6th/7th Feb Dan won the Birmingham Games 800m...winning his heat (1:55), his semi 1:54.8 ) and the final ( 1:55 ).

Both Tim and Dan are heading up to the UK trials next weekend.
