Phoenix Awards

The most important Athletics event in the world on Saturday 28th November was held at Alfresco's, Brighton. The annual Phoenix Awards was a glittering celebration of the dedication & successes of our members.

Burchell award (boy/girl) goes to Ned Howes for his endeavour in athletics & Holly Luscombe for her county running.


Sports Hall award goes to Remy Corder - at 8years old he is a consistent sprinter who tries his hardest - and Naomi Owolabi who has also shown her dedication as an athlete / sprinter.


Club athletes of the year

U11 Boy: William Muzio for his reliability - being one of the few U11 boys he always shows up to compete.
U11 Girl: Mekdes Berry for her consistent support & commitment
U13 Boy: Douglas Zveushe for his performance at the Sussex Track event. This was a close run award with Alex Brothwell coming a near second.
U13 Girl: Eloise Nicoll for her achievement in the 800 metres. Again a close call between Eloise & Millie Dickinson.
U15 Boy: Charlie Warren for his 2:14 in the 800 metres.
U15 Girl: Louisa Saunders who is County Champ at 300m, 3rd in the 200m , qualified for the English champs at 200m.
U17 Boy: Toby Harris who is ranked 1 in the UK in the U17 200 in & out doors, UK record 200m age group record, 3rd on all time list, second under 20!!
U17 Girl: Elishka Coupar for showing a real effrort in training & racing & her prefromance in the cross country team.
U20 Men: Robbie Fitzgerald who competed for GB
U20 Female: Sophie Mansfield who has achieved a Power of 10 final for English senior woman's 800m championships


Best performance
- track & field: Charlie Grice for his performances on the national & international stage
- Road (female) Almi Neurukar -Sussex schools champ
- Road (male) Ben Tickner - winner of the Sussex road relay & cross country champs
Come Back of the Year: Neomi Fonteyn is back running & rapidly improving after 9 months out with a broken leg.
Bruce Faulkner award: Andrew Haig - for inspiring other athletes.
Shield for Commitment & Enthusiasm: Paul Collicutt
Volunteers Award: Andy Bone
Coach of the Year: Bruce Warren

Newcomer of the Year: Hannah Carey

Veterans Awards
O40 Men: Matt Grenall: Matt shows steady progress & races a lot with results.
O50 Men: Nigel Herron: consistent, relentless performances
O35 Women: Gill Checkley for her runs week in week out, participation at the Cross Country races & dedication as a trainer.
O50 Women: Debbie Evers - participation at national & international levels
O60 Men: Paul Whelpton: cross country, road & county champ!
