'Silver Foxes' retain gold at Masters XC Champs

Monday 7th December 2009

The over 60s men's team (aka Silver Foxes) were defending champions at the Sussex Masters XC Champs at Denne Park on Sunday 6 December. That they did so with a thumping 16 point lead over silver-placed Brighton and Hove was down to a fine run by Andrew Field for individual silver, backed up by Andrew Haig (4th) and Pat Kearney (10th). Pat qualified by a whisker for this age group – it was his birthday on the day of the event. What a way to celebrate!

Otherwise Phoenix were handsomely represented by the vet men (we had no vet women's teams) and in soggy conditions (just look at the photographs) performed well for 4th team placings in the over 50 and over 40 categories. Andy Bone and Nigel Herron ran sub 40 minute for the over 40s (12th and 17th respectively), Brian Friend and Colin Simpson ran sub 44s (11th and 12th) in the over 50s.
