Second in Sussex

Sussex Under 13 League

On an exceptionally cold and extremely windy evening, Phoenix's U13 Team finished an admirable second place by just 35 points behind Brighton and Hove at the first meeting of the new track season.

With many new young members competing for the first time, it was a night of 'having a go" at fields events and "trying out" hurdles for the first time, showing a positive spirit within the team. A special mention to new boys Danny Giustiano, Pat Sederoni, Ben Bradford, Ellis Martin and Tom Bond for mucking in and showing what good sportsmen they are.

A more experienced Phoenix girls team saw a gutsy win by Eloise Nichol in the A string 1000m in 3.32.4 and another first for Rachel Berry in the B string in 3.43.9. Both with a great cross country season behind them.

In the Boys 1000m Alex Brothwell ran a solid race to come home first in 3.21.5 and it was also a clear win for Milly Dickinson in the Girls 600m.
Phoenix girls were impressive in the sprints in particular Phoebe Thoms who dominated the 150m from the gun with a winning time of 21.8 as well as also winning the long jump with a 4.30m leap. In the 75m hurdles it was A and B string wins for Tegan Corder in 14.0 and Rachel Berry in 16.8.

The next League meeting is on Wednesday 17th June at Lewes again - sunshine please!
