Half a decade of wins for Senior Men
Saturday April 4th and Phoenix were out in force for the Sussex County Athletic Association Road Rely Championships. Held in the beautiful grounds of Christ's Hospital, Horsham, this event attracts some of Sussex's premier athletes and one international....our own Charlie Grice!
The Senior Men continue to show their strength with their fifth successive gold medal in this race. Max Pickard, Dan Stepney, Jon Pepper, Patrick Acaye, Josh Guilmant & Charlie Grice battled fierce competition to take the lead and hold it by lap 3. Jon ran the 3rd fastest leg & Charlie the fastest.
The not 1 but 3 Phoenix teams entered in the M60 Vets did not disappoint; Gold medals were won for the M60 A team of Paul Whelpton, Terry Avey & Bob Novis with Paul clocking the second fastest lap. The B team of Andrew Haig, Malcolm Kemp & Colin Simpson finished in bronze. With Andrew Field, Eogan McKenna and Rik Taub in the C team and Brian Friend loaned out to the O50 B team, our entire pool of O60 men were on display.
Further medals were won for the Men's V50 team of Mike Townley, Nigel Herron & Lance Bellers who took bronze in their category as did the U15 Girls team of Charlotte Mathews, Louisa Saunders & Holly Luscombe.
Well done also to Tara Bage, running for the Senior Women's A team, for running a second fastest lap (U17).
