Blackcap Handicap

On Thursday 31st July I went with my mum to Ditchling Beacon for the Black Cap Handicap.

My job was calling the runners and ticking them off the list.

Paul Thomas went off first. There was fifteen runners. Rick won.

Thank you to runners & supporter for turning out to enjoy our annual Blackcap Handicap event. It was good to have some guest runners too.

First home and winner in the handicap itself was Rik Taub in 47:30 (beating the handicapper by a whole 4 minutes!).
Second Home and winning the fastest woman award was Kate Gorman in 35:16
Nigel Herron was third home in 32:48 but Matt Greenall paced well to just pip Nigel for fastest man in 32:41.

Finally my particular thanks to Sue who was left to do all the event publicity whilst I was away on holiday and who did the hard job of timing; to Elsie Mitchell for calling the runners to order and handing them place numbers at the end; to Bruce Warren who turned out with family to help with time keeping; at to Matt Greenall's family who provided the support and his wife who was our photographer.

A lovely evening and I had the joy of watching the sun sink as a large red orb as I ran home - the joys of running!

Best wishes
Liz
