On 6th May 1954, at a meet at Iffley Road Track in Oxford, Roger Bannister became the first man to run a mile in under 4 minutes. Run in 3min 59.4, Bannister broke the world record and the myth that this couldn't be achieved.
60 years on & Brighton Phoenix Athletics celebrated this occasion at the Open graded Track Races / BMC meeting. With over 50 athletes racing competition was as fierce as always.
Thank you to Lance Bellars for these beautiful action shots.
