Sam Wade continues success at BUCS tri with Silver!

Saturday 11th May 2013

Sam Wade (Cardiff Metropolitan University) entered the British Universities Sprint Distance Championships last Sunday at St Mary's School, Calne, Wiltshire. With the belief that another medal maybe on the cards and he showed that all the hard graft he has been putting in over the winter has paid off. A fantastic individual silver and only 8 seconds off the gold.

Competing in the sprint event which is based on a 750m pool swim. 25k bike around the local area, followed by an out and back 5k run which appears to be closer to 6k. With entries apparently an all time high for the event (in excess of 500), the competition was going to be tough.

In fine sunny weather Sam took a progressive approach to the race exiting the swim in 9.16 for 8th place before moving up to 4th and just outside the medals with a strong bike 38.12 and then on the run he made his move for the medals with the 3rd fastest of the day 18.30 but this only told half the story as he was locked in a three way battle for the win. Sam managed to out dip third by just over 1 second, in what must have been a very enjoyable race.

Well done Sam for bringing the boom!
