Phoenix Plan For Steyning Triathlon: UPDATE!

Monday 29th April 2013

On May 5th the Steyning triathlon was held, a pool based triathlon, offering a sprint and a standard course. The sprint is a 400m swim, followed by a 18.5km ride and a 4.6km run. The standard course is 800m in the pool 35.1km bike and 8km run to glory! Last year’s standard distance was won by our own Tom Hopkins who successfully defended his title this year.

The weather was considerably better than last year’s near arctic conditions and Phoenix put in a strong field of athletes. Sean Scott, after qualifying for the World Duathlon Championships in Canada, had his eye on beating Tom this year and had been training hard at the Friday Night swim sessions and Wednesday night track sessions to get every advantage he could but unfortunately it was not to be.

Additionally to the friendly rivalry we had a large field this year, keen, eager and ready to represent Phoenix in the triathlon of the year.

In the standard distance race we have:

• Tom Hopkins 1:35:45 (1)
• Sean Scott 1:38:45 (5)
• John Tindell 1:39:02 (7)
• Malcolm Hughes 1:44:15 (13)
• Emma Hughes 2:01:24 (63)
• Deborah Evers 2:13:03 (93)

And in the sprint distance we have:

• Wes Mechen 54:18 (4)
• David Futter 58:38 (16)
• Will Flewett 59:49 (19)
• Mark Walker 1:06:29 (62)
• Sophie Barton 1:09:59 (99)

Well done to all our members!
