Wokingham Half Marathon
Sun 10 Feb 2013
Lance Bellers and Paul Lawrence both recorded pbs. Lance reported back:
It went really well, we planned to run the first five miles together and it worked out perfectly, we ran 6:40s and kept it nicely under control, resisted anything silly early doors. Paul was happy to carry on so we did another couple, past seven mile marker but gradually I started to feel it so told him to push on which he did but we both had a great platform to go from by that point.
Weather wasn't great, very cold and wet with some wind on exposed bits but it wasn't the all-out onslaught I was dreading so could have been a lot worse. I think on a calm day though it would be very quick, worth bearing in mind. The start was a bit weird, had time to reset my watch before even crossing the actual timer line but apart from that was well run, lots of marshals and free cuppa at the end.218th Paul Lawrence 1:25:49

Phoenix Races
Sun 11 Nov 2012
We couldn't have hoped for better conditions: bright sunshine and not a breath of wind. It meant that numbers of entries were mantained with 258 young athletes competing. The Friday-Ad mile featured 23 adult racers.
It has to be said that the organising team under the leadership of Dave Powell and Any Bone did a fantastic job and the day seemed to go off without a hitch.
There were plenty of Phoenix vests to be seen racing and much success by our own athletes. There were winners in the U9 boys (Lukas Nerurkar), U11 girls (Milly Dickinson), U13 girls (Almi Nerurkar), U15 boys (Archie Davis) and U17 men (Billy Wright). The winner of the Friday-Ad mile was Robbie Fitzgibbon who set a new course record in a time of 4:34.

Bexhill 5k
Wed 23 May 2012
Josh Guilmant ran the first Bexhill 5k of the summer series on Wed 23rd and took the race by the scruff of the neck. His winning time of 15:06 smashed the course record by an incredible 31 seconds and was an incredible 93 seconds ahead of the next placed athlete. Superb running Josh. These facebook comments are an indication of how awed people were:
Mark Ryalls I still can't believe the guy that won it, like Billy Whizzz!
TL Sports Events He was amazing, such smooth graceful running, he was definitely in a class of his own last night. And such a lovely, down to earth guy to chat to. Fantastic to see the course record smashed!
Capitan Slow He asked me a bout the course before the race and I told him all about it, I even mentioned "don't worry you won't get lost, just follow the crowd " !! as if....Terry Avey was the only other Phoenix runner and he recorded a staunch 20:17 for 2nd M60

Angmering Bluebell 10k and 10m trial runs
Sun 22 Apr 2012
Whilst thousands were pounding the streets of London, a group of Phoenix runners were enjoying the Angmering Estate in West Sussex for the annual Angmering Bluebell 10k trial run, which this year also included a 10mile trial run.
As the race title suggests the race is very scenic, run mainly of road with a mixture of open countryside and woods paved in bluebells. The spectators however were probably more aware of the stunning scenery as the race conditions were hard, the hilly twisting course being made more challenging by a week of rain making large sections very muddy and slippery. In fact it was probably muddier than any of this year’s cross country courses!
In the 10k race James Atkinson finished third male, with Darren Elliot running only a week after the Brighton Marathon finishing a very credible 12th. In the 10 mile race Bruce Warren was third male and Catherine Bounds third female, with Bruce also taking first place in the Supervet category.

Brighton Marathon
Sun 15 Apr 2012
It was another perfect day for distance running; maybe a little on the chilly side and perhaps that breeze was stiffer than ideal at times but the organisers have been blessed by fine weather for the third year running. Phoenix are pretty keen on this event and 25 of us joined in the fun. As you can see by the results, just over one and a half hours covered our finishing times indicating an impressive general standard. It was also great to see so many Phoenix members out on the course giving vocal support.

Sussex Road Relay Champs
Sat 7 Apr 2012
A hugely successful day for Phoenix athletes with representation at all levels.
U13 boys took gold with a fine individual course record by Archie Davis. U15 boys took bronze with Billy White storming to an individual course record. The story was repeated with the senior men taking gold and bronze medals. The A team set a fantastic course record with Ben Tickner lowering the individual record by a huge margin. The medals continued for the men with O50s taking bronze and O60s taking silver.
No medals for the female athletes but some fine performances non-the less with all age groups represented (even if the vet women raced in the wrong category!).
There is a full report in the news section and full results here.

Normally this event attracts a number of Phoenix runners. This year it was just Tom Farsides who ran a fine pb and second claimer Jon Pepper.

Jon was in one of the leading groups and they were sent 500 metres in the wrong direction.
He was on for a 64 minutes. But looking good for his London Marathon debut -

Brighton Half Marathon
Sun 19 Feb 2012
Phoenix is going through a golden spell at the moment and the showing at Brighton Half Marathon was no exception. It is officially confirmed that the course was 13.42 miles rather than 13.1 owing to a misplaced turn-around cone near Roedean. The organisers have now added adjusted chip times to the results. Since Ian Leitch was actually leading the race at 13.1 miles, he has a particular reason to be annoyed. Even so, second (Ian), third (Josh Guilmant) and fourth (Finn McNally) for Phoenix is quite an achievement. Terry Avey was first M60.

Sussex Road Relays
Sat 23 Apr 2011
The lateness of Easter meant brilliantly sunny and warm conditions, and a good turnout from the club was rewarded with a fair share of the honours. The U13 boys, who fielded two teams, kicked us off with a silver medal – Archie Davis taking individual bronze (third fastest leg). Next was a splendid gold-team performance by the over 60 men and then, highlight of the day, a spirited gold-medal performance by an inspired senior men's team. Sixth after two of the six legs, the next four laps took them one minute ahead of arch-rivals Brighton and Hove. Josh Guilmant won individual gold and Tom Hopkins bronze. Charlie Grice was actually second fastest runner of the day behind Josh which made him U17 gold medalist. We scooped all the individual medals in that category – Will Durkin was second and Jake Elliot was third.

Brighton Marathon Mini-Mile
Sun 10 Apr 2011
Our junior athletes were out in force on Brighton Marathon day. There was a terrific entry in the ten races that constituted the Mini-Mile. We were winners in no less than four of those races with pride of place going to Charlie Grice, winner of the U18 boys for the second year running.
It was especially encouraging to see 21 young athletes from the Phoenix starter group with some stunning results especially in race 7 (2nd, 3rd and 6th).
