After a very long search we have finally found a local pool where we can book an all-year round weekly swimming session. We arel hiring the pool at Roedean School for a 90-minute slot on Thursdays from 5.30-7pm. The sessions will be open to all members (at present only over 18s) - and potential members - at al weekly charge of £6.
There will be a lifeguard on duty and coaching available each week, though we will be relying on a rota of club members and other qualified volunteers to coach and it may take a week or two to get things running as smoothly as we would like. Hildi Mitchell is coaching to begin with assisted by other volunteers. Contact firstname.lastname@example.org if you want to know what is in store. It is a four-lane pool so there should also be scope to accommodate those preferring to do their own thing.
Please give this a try if you are interested in improving your swimming. We know the location and time slot will not suit everyone but private pool time is very hard to find, and not cheap. The club will be subsiding the sessions as much as is necessary for a trial period but we will need a good turnout every week to ensure that they continue.
Please bring drinks bottles and fins and other equipment if you have it. You should also wear a hat, but you can burrow one if you don’t have one.
The entrance to Roedean School (BN2 5RQ) is on the west side of the school via Roedean Way, which goes off Roedean Road (the road above Roedean Cafe). The swimming pool is a separate building on the front of the school (ie nearer the sea) and there is plenty of nearby parking space. The seafront buses (12,14,27 etc) stop in front of the school.
Everybody welcome. There is no need to book in advance. And if you are able to help in any way - with coaching, publicity, collecting the money (!) or anything else please let us know.
